File Submission Guidelines
How to Send Your Manuscript So I Can Do My Best Work
Whether you’re submitting a novel for editing or a short story for a beta read, a clean, well-prepped file helps me focus on what really matters—your story. These guidelines ensure a smooth, efficient editing process for both of us.
Submitting Your File? Not So Fast…
This page outlines how to prepare and submit your manuscript—but please note, I only collect files after your project has been reviewed and accepted. Once your request is approved, I’ll follow up with instructions for sending your manuscript securely.
File Format
-
Submit your manuscript as a .docx (Microsoft Word) file.
-
If using Google Docs, please share with comment access and notify me via email once shared.
Formatting Basics
-
Use a standard font like Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial
-
12 pt, double-spaced, with 1” margins
-
Include chapter breaks and page numbers
File Cleanliness
-
Run a basic spellcheck before submitting
-
Submit a clean copy (no tracked changes unless we’ve discussed it)
-
Suggested file name:
Title_AuthorName_Date.docx
Especially for Rush Projects
Clean copy is essential. If your manuscript needs heavy cleanup, that’ll be reflected in the scope, timeline, and quote. Rushed doesn’t mean rushed through—quality still comes first.
Is Your Manuscript Ready?
Let’s make sure your project is at the right stage before we dive in:
-
Developmental Edit?
Messy first drafts are totally okay! Dev edits are all about shaping structure, pacing, and character arcs. Alpha feedback is helpful but not required. -
Line or Hybrid Edit?
Your manuscript should be structurally sound. These edits focus on clarity and flow—not fixing a plot still in progress. -
Beta or Alpha Read?
These are best for “mostly-baked” stories. I’ll share reader reactions, flag inconsistencies, and highlight pacing—but I won’t rewrite your book.
💡 Not sure what you need? Check this guide, or feel free to reach out.
When to Send Your File
Please don’t submit your manuscript just yet!
File uploads are only collected after your project has been reviewed and accepted through my intake process.
Once we’ve confirmed your booking, I’ll send instructions for submitting your manuscript based on your selected service.
